Be Resourceful — The Only Way To The Top
The more conversations I have with founders and entrepreneurs, the more I’m starting to figure out if they’re showing some signs of moving from zero to one.
Let’s put it this way — resourceful people know how to win. Period.
I’m bringing this up because I recently had dinner with a founder friend who’s currently kicking ass not because they’re talented, but because during the conversation, I was reminded of how they got to where they were — and it wasn’t by pure talent or smarts.
But, it wasn’t always like this for them. They started out on Struggle Street just like the rest of us.
Instead, what made them really stand out is that they have and will continue to find ways to make things happen out of thin air.
But not by magic.
Instead, they have this simple ability to just persist a little bit more and also be a bit more consistent, whether it be building connections, reaching out to the right people, hiring an A-team, delegating work when needed, communicating effectively, and most importantly willing to step out of their comfort zone when needed — they were willing to go the extra mile.
This might mean being a beginner and a student at times — learning and being a sponge, and also taking those few extra steps to reach out to that investor or get that potential customer.
Ultimately, being resourceful is something anyone can learn and become, which is a powerful silver lining.
It’s all about being able to find solutions to problems with limited resources and with what you have available to you.
Being willing to take a few more steps than others every single time and want it bad enough to make it happen can result in outsized returns.
Resourcefulness is underrated.
A series of short notes as a reminder for myself (and others) on how to do great work.
